Eerste karakterontwerpen Dorothy of Oz

Door het enorme succes van Alice in Wonderland is een verhaal als The Wizard of Oz plots weer erg in trek in Hollywood. Er staan maar liefst 4 Oz-gerelateerde projecten in de steigers: Disneys Oz, the Great and Powerful (2013) van regisseur Sam Raimi met Robert Downey, Jr.; Oz van Michael en Mark Polish; Surrender Dorothy (2011), een sequel op The Wizard of Oz met mogelijk Drew Barrymore in de regiestoel; en de animatiefilm Dorothy of Oz.

Van die animatiefilm zijn nu de eerste karakterontwerpen opgedoken, duidelijk geïnspireerd door het werk van L. Frank Baum. Hieronder een overzichtje van de castleden en hun respectieve personages. De film van regisseur Dan St. Pierre (Everyone's Hero) wordt in april 2012 in de bioscoop verwacht.

De officiële synopsis:

There is trouble in Oz and Dorothy is needed! With Glinda’s help, she and Toto return to Oz. Joined by her old friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Lion as well as exciting new characters, Dorothy sets out on a perilous journey to stop the crafty Jester from using the power of the Wicked Witch of the West’s wand to turn the people of Oz into puppets. That seems to be the least of Dorothy’s problems as her travels lead her straight into a treacherous maze, a cave full of very hungry dragons and an evil spell that could destroy the Yellow Brick Road. Dorothy has the daunting knowledge that it is up to her to stop Jester’s terrible plan. Audiences will welcome the return of the old Oz favorites and will love meeting new friends like Tugg a gruff talking boat and Wiser an owl with an unlucky attraction to molasses.

Had liever een speelfilm gehad, iets dat echt in de trend van Alice was. Met een goede regie kun je van Oz net zo'n mooie wereld maken als van Wonderland.

Vond AiW niet echt geslaagd.. Dus blij dat OZ in ieder geval een animatie krijgt..

Deze concepten zien eer leuk uit.. Met goede acteurs met goede stemmen..

Hmm, mijn vrouw kent het hele Oz verhaal niet. Ik zat juist te denken welke film ik haar moet voorschotelen? De oude uit 1939? The Wiz? De Muppet versie? Maar misschien dat hier nog weer een bewerking komt. Deze niet, dit is dus een vervolgverhaal
