Joss Whedon over Marvels Phase 2 en 'The Avengers 2' Met zijn meerjarige contract bij Marvel Studios krijgt Joss Whedon een belangrijke rol in de toekomstige films van de studio. De regisseur sprak tegenover 24 Hours over zijn taak bij Phase 2, de films die verschijnen na The Avengers en opbouwen naar een tweede gezamenlijk optreden in The Avengers 2, die op 1 mei 2015 moet verschijnen.

Whedon over zijn rol bij de vele films: "Very talented people are writing and directing these movies, and what I don't want to be is the guy they dread, who's going to come in and say 'Oh, well I have the power to say change this.' I'm not that."

Whedons rol lijkt dus minder groot te zijn dan het in het in het begin leek. Hij liet ook e.e.a. kwijt over zijn The Avengers 2, waarin hij waarschijnlijk het uiterste van de superhelden gaat vragen: "The creation of the team is not the happy ending. It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I'm digging, just twist that knife. And that's exciting for me."

In een interview met MTV liet hij onlangs weten veel vertrouwen te hebben in Guardians of the Galaxy, de Marvel film die geregisseerd moet gaan worden door James Gunn (Super, 2010) en op 1 augustus 2014 moet verschijnen: “James is what makes me think it will work. I myself was sort of like, 'Well, I liked Rocket Raccoon as a kid, but I'm not sure how that plays [to a wider audience].' And then they said, 'Well, we're thinking about using James Gunn.' And I said, 'Oh, then no, you're fine.' He is so off the wall, and so crazy, but so smart, such a craftsman and he builds from his heart. He loves the raccoon. Needs the raccoon. This is the guy who wrote 'The Specials.' People don't understand how influential that movie was about heroes, about taking heroes and making them mundane. And [he directed] 'Super.' Gunn has barely started, but already has a very twisted take on it, but it all comes from a real love for the material. It's going to be hard for the humans to keep up," said Whedon. "I know he's going to come from left field and I'm going to go, 'What?' And then, 'Of course, why didn't I think of that?' And then I'm going to beat him!”

De andere "Phase 2" films zijn Iron Man 3 (3 mei 2013), Thor: The Dark World (8 november 2013), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (4 april 2014) en mogelijk ook nog Ant-Man (2014/2015). Daarnaast verschijnt ook de tv-serie S.H.I.E.L.D..

Niet alleen vertrouwen, maar vooral heel benieuwd. Kan niet wachten op Phase 2!

Ik vind het veelbelovend klinken. Eerste Avengers was tof, maar ik zou het wel tof vinden als Whedon nu echt dieper en verder zou willen gaan zoals hij belooft.

Tja, Whedon heeft natuurlijk zelf iets te vaak in die positie verkeerd...
