Geen Snipes en Van Damme

Een van de meest belangrijke nieuwtjes van de afgelopen tijd was toch wel het bericht dat Wesley Snipes samen met Jean-Claude Van Damme te zien zou zijn in The Hard Corps. Er blijkt echter helemaal niks van waar te zijn, The Muscles From Brussels gaat het helemaal in zijn eentje doen, en regisseur Sheldon Lettich legde het uit aan het forum van VanDammeFan.

"Yes, it's true that it's not true. Wesley Snipes has NOT been cast in this movie; he has not even been approached about being in this movie.

Here's the reasons why, as the producer explained to me: It would cost in the neighborhood of $10 million just to pay both their salaries. But there is no assurance that this movie would do twice the business if both stars were in it, because the demographic that sees a Van Damme movie is the same demographic that sees a Wesley Snipes movie. You don't necessarily get more bang for your buck, although the movie's budget would be nearly twice the norm. This is why you never saw Stallone and Schwarzenegger in the same movie, although that concept was hotly bandied about in the 80's and 90's. Personally I don't agree with this assessment, but then I'm not the one who's arranging the financing.

As a movie fan, I'd love to see the two of them together in this movie. But as a director, I'd be very worried about a clash of egos on the set. That's another reason you never saw a movie with both Sly and Arnold, or both Sly and Bruce Willis, or JCVD and Steven Seagal, or Steven Seagal and Wesley Snipes. I could go on & on."

Tja ze hebben een punt, vanuit financieel oogpunt. Waarom een film maken met 2 vechtersbazen, je spreekt precies hetzelfde publiek aan als met 1, en er komen dus niet veel meer bezoekers op af. Toch jammer, het zou leuke actiescenes hebben opgeleverd.

Dat waren dat misschien de films waarin deze acteurs speelde voordat ze een ego kregen? Een al Pacino zou in die tijd toch naar de kwaliteiten van Brando hebben opgekeken. Toch zou ik dan wel eens een behind-the-scenes docu willen zien waarin snipes en JvC bijvoorbeeld tegen elkaar aan het zeiken zijn. Kun je meteen zien hoe die mensen echt zouden zijn.
