Na twee verschuivingen vanwege de bosbranden in Los Angeles en omgeving en de bijbehorende oproep van grote sterren om de show niet uit te zenden, zijn donderdagmiddag de nominaties bekendgemaakt. De nominaties werden online bekendgemaakt door Bowen Yang en Rachel Sennott.

De grote winnaar van de middag is Emilia Pérez. Na de meeste nominaties en beeldjes bij de Golden Globes en goede nominaties in SAG en BAFTA was het niet geheel onwaarschijnlijk dat de film ook hier zou scoren. Met 13 nominaties is de film de best presterende niet-Engelstalige film ooit bij de Academy Awards en steekt ze Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon en Roma - die beiden 10 nominaties ontvingen - voorbij.

Wicked
Ook voor Wicked betrof het een middag vol goud. Net als The Brutalist pakte de musicalfilm tien nominaties, waaronder een nominatie voor beide hoofdrolspeelsters (Cynthia Erivo en Ariana Grande). A Complete Unknown pakte acht nominaties, waaronder die voor beste regie.
