Woody Allen heeft de laatste jaren films gemaakt in Europese steden als Londen, Barcelona en Parijs (Midnight in Paris, een film die deze zomer uitkomt), maar in Italië was hij nog niet geweest. Daar gaat nu verandering in komen, want voor zijn nieuwste film reist de 75-jarige regisseur af naar Rome.
Allen maakte in het begin van zijn loopbaan uitsluitend films in New York, maar daar is de laatste jaren verandering in gekomen doordat het financieel niet meer mogelijk is.
Dit had Allen zelf te zeggen over zijn nieuwste project: I love these sophisticated cities. It's fantastic to have the possibility to work there, like when I shot Manhattan in New York, Match Point in London and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Barcelona ... Each time, it's like a declaration of love for certain places. I project onto the big screen my feelings for places which count a lot in my life. I hope to do the same thing with Rome.
