David F. Sandberg, regisseur van superhelden-sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods heeft laten weten dat de film een stuk grootser en actievoller wordt dan het eerste deel. Ook kunnen we meer mythische schepsels verwachten.
Sandbergs eerste Shazam! kwam uit in 2019 en liet zien hoe de tienerwees Billy Batson (Asher Angel) de kracht krijgt om te transformeren in een volwassen superheld (Zachary Levi). De film kon rekenen op positieve recensies en scoorde goed aan de bioscoopkassa's, dus Warner Bros. en DC gaven al snel het groene licht voor een vervolg.

In een nieuwe tweet liet Sandberg weten hoe trots hij is op de film en dat hij niet kan wachten tot mensen de eerste beelden ervan zien:
"Deze film is VEEL groter dan de eerste. Ik sta echt te popelen om mensen te laten zien wat we in petto hebben. Hopelijk laten ze er veel van terugkomen in de trailer. Spoilers boeien me niet eens; ik wil gewoon de schepsels en actie laten zien uit de film."

In a new tweet, Sandberg expresses his excitement for Shazam 2. He calls the sequel a "much bigger movie," and says he's most stoked about the new creatures and action scenes, which he is sure will please superhero movie aficionados. Somewhat surprisingly, he doesn't want WB and DC to hold back from showing a lot of stuff in the Shazam! Fury of the Gods trailer, as he cannot wait for fans to see what he has done with the Shazam! universe. Take a look at his tweet below:

Fans first got the idea about the sequel being a level-up from the original when Sandberg revealed Shazam 2's new costumes for all the superheroes. The costume upgrades signify bigger roles for the supporting cast, as well as more superhero action, both of which have been guaranteed by Sandberg. Additionally, since Shazam! Fury of the Gods takes place two years after the original movie, it has been specified that Billy and his siblings are now more in control of their superpowers, meaning that they will be taking the new threats posed by Mirren and Liu head-on. Fans can also expect the action in Shazam 2 to be more serious than playful, as previous images of Levi's damaged suit point to an aggressive encounter between Shazam and the new villains.
