Naar aanleiding van de release van Devil, de eerste film in M. Night Shyamalans Night Chronicles-trilogie, heeft de regisseur bekendgemaakt dat hij in de derde film het verhaal zal gebruiken dat oorspronkelijk bedoeld was voor Unbreakable 2.

Shyamalan: "I cannibalized the idea for the sequel to 'Unbreakable' for one of the 'Night Chronicles. It was such a cool idea for a villain, and it was actually originally in the script for 'Unbreakable,' and it was too much. There were too many villains, so I pulled this villain out and was like, 'I'll make this the second flick'."

Het verhaal en de villain zal Shyamalan dus gebruiken voor de derde (voorlopig nog titelloze) film in de trilogie. De eerste film, Devil, draait vanaf 16 september 2010 in de Nederlandse bioscopen. De tweede film, Twelve Strangers, staat gepland voor 2012.
