Twee jaar terug veroorzaakte de laatste film van de Deens regisseur Lars von Trier, Antichrist, veel ophef op het Filmfestival van Cannes door de vele expliciete scenes in de film. In datzelfde Cannes gaat zeer waarschijnlijk dit jaar ook zijn nieuwste film in premiere, Melancholia met Charlotte Gainsbourg en Kirsten Dunst.

Nu heeft von Trier ook al zijn plannen bekendgemaakt voor de film waarmee hij hierna aan de slag gaat. Het wordt een project over een vrouw die haar eigen seksuele identiteit ontdekt. Dit vertelt von Trier zelf over zijn plannen aan ScreenDaily:

I’m thinking of making a film about a woman’s erotic birth, a woman who discovers her eroticism. The working title is The Nymphomaniac. I had two titles that I put to my business partner Peter Aalbæk Jensen. One was The Nymphomaniac, the other was Dirt in Bedsores. I asked him which one he thought was the most commercial. He said that with a title like The Nymphomaniac, the film would already be financed.
