Van de vele producten die speelgoedgigant Hasbro beschikbaar stelt om te verfilmen, waaronder Transformers en G.I. Joe, is het bordspel Candy Land toch wel één van de vreemdste. Het spel bevat namelijk geen plot of uitgewerkte personages. Nu blijkt dat de makers naar andere films kijken voor de benadering van het project, waaronder The Lord of the Rings. Schrijver Jonathan Aibel, die het script schreef met Glenn Berger, zei het volgende tegen Entertainment Weekly:

We envision it as Lord of The Rings, but set in a world of candy… We don’t see it as a movie based on a board game, although it has characters from that world and takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on… We are going for real comedy, real action, and real emotions at stake.

Aibel en Berter werkten eerder aan MadTV, King of the Hill en de laatste twee Alvin and the Chipmunks films. Candy Land wordt een live-action film en moet een episch avontuur à la LotR gaan worden met een heleboel snoep. De film moet uitkomen in 2013.
