Maar toen kwam er gisteren bericht van Gris Grimly, die de comic waar de film op gebaseerd zou worden schreef. Hij gaf op Twitter aan dat het erop leek dat het niet de juiste tijd was voor een stopmotionfilm. Dat baseerde hij op de tegenvallende box office opbrengst van Tim Burtons Frankenweenie.
