De Amerikaanse regisseur Sidney Lumet krijgt een ere-Oscar voor zijn gehele oeuvre, zo maakte de Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gisteravond bekend.

Lumet debuteerde in 1957 met 12 Angry Men, waarvoor hij meteen een Oscar-nominatie in de wacht sleepte, iets wat hem daarna nog vier keer lukte met Dog Day Afternoon, Network, Prince of the City en The Verdict. De prijs zelf heeft hij echter nooit gewonnen.
