Ryan Gosling werd onlangs vlak voor de start van de opnames ingewisseld voor Mark Walhberg in The Lovely Bones, de nieuwe film van regisseur Peter Jackson. In de verfilming van het boek van schrijfster Alice Sebold doet een 14-jarig meisje vanuit de hemel haar verhaal nadat ze is verkracht en vermoord. De reden voor het vertrek van Gosling, die met Rachel Weisz gecast was als vader en moeder van het slachtoffer, werd destijds niet geheel duidelijk, maar is inmiddels toegelicht door de acteur.
"I think people are making it a far more interesting story than it actually is. The age of the character versus my real age was always a concern of mine. Peter and I tried to make it work and ultimately it just didnt. I think the film is much better off with Mark Walhberg in that role. Peter Jackson is an incredible filmmaker and Im here to tell you that he has things up his sleeve that are going to blow peoples minds. Im going to be the first person in line to buy tickets...The media always slant things in a negative direction. If somebody said I was easy to work with, theyd make that sound bad, too."
