Daar zijn ze dan: de nominaties voor de 98e Academy Awards, ofwel de Oscars. Donderdagmiddag werden ze bekendgemaakt via een speciale livestream, en de resultaten zijn toch wel opmerkelijk.
Sinners komt alvast als grote winnaar uit de bus, met maar liefst 16(!) nominaties in totaal. Dat is een record, want tot nu toe was het meeste aantal nominaties altijd 14 (voor All About Eve, Titanic en La La Land).

De film van Ryan Coogler werd genomineerd in alle grote categorieën, waaronder Beste Film, Beste Regisseur en Beste Acteur in een Hoofdrol (voor Michael B. Jordan). Maar natuurlijk zijn er ook andere genomineerden.
Zo sleepte One Battle After Another maar liefst 13 nominaties in de wacht. Timothée Chalamet schrijft ook Oscargeschiedenis met een derde nominatie voor zijn acteerwerk (ditmaal voor Marty Supreme), waarmee hij de jongste man ooit is die dit heeft behaald.
