Disney heeft tijdens de Comic Con de titel van het langverwachte vervolg op Tron bekendgemaakt: TRON Legacy. Jeff Bridges zegt dat de titel refereert naar het centrale thema van de film. Ook werd bekendgemaakt dat de film uitgebracht zal gaan worden in zowel Digital Disney 3D als IMAX 3D.

Disney verraste iedereen door tijdens de Comic Con van vorig jaar een teaser te tonen van Tron 2. Het materiaal bleef nog lang bij iedereen hangen. Dit jaar konden ze een stuk minder laten zien, aangezien de film nog een jaar van post-productie staat te wachten. Disney verschafte ons wel met wat concept art, onderaan te zien.

Het synopsis is als volgt:

TRON is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Hier volgt een beschrijving van een scène uit het begin van de film:

The scene involved Kevin’s son being told in voiceover that someone received a page from his father’s old office, which has been abandoned for over 20 years. Flynn’s son shows up on a motor cycle. Flynn’s arcade has been long abandoned. He opens the door to reveal a room full of arcade machines, all covered with sheets. He inspects the old shut down arcade, and it is clear no one has been here in ages. He switches on the power and all the arcades turn on, as does a jukebox, which is playing retro 1980’s music. He goes up stairs to Flynn’s old office, which also looks untouched, everything covered. The next shot was kinda magical. He walks down an isle of games which ends with the Tron arcade game. He uncovers it and we see the retro 80’s graphics. He sticks in a quarter but the machine rejects it. He pulls out the machine to take a look at the back, and discovers a secret door. He opens the door and enters the darkness. Cut to black.

Regisseur Joseph Kosinski vertelt dat TRON Legacy enkele dingen doet die nog nooit gedaan zijn, maar dan allemaal tegelijk. Hij belooft dat we op de Comic Con van 2010 iets zullen gaan zien, wat we nog nooit gezien hebben.
