De nieuwe Judge Dredd moet een stuk beter worden dan het in 1995 gemaakte origineel. Dat is wat Karl Urban, de nieuwe Judge Dredd, zei tegen Empire Magazine. Volgens hem is de originele film met Sylvester Stallone een gemiste kans: "As soon as he [Stallone, red.] took his helmet off the enigma was blown. Our film is going to be darker in tone, and we've got the benefit of modern filmmaking and technology to help us."

Duister en 3D vormen voor deze film, net als voor zoveel andere films de laatste tijd ook de sleutelwoorden. Het moet vooral helpen bij het weergeven van de duistere en door misdaad geteisterde stad Mega City One, die Alex Garland in zijn scenario heeft gecreëerd. "Alex Garland has done a fantastic job of writing a script that's faithful to the world Wagner created, yet completely fresh in its execution."

Over tien weken beginnen de opnames van de film in Zuid-Afrika en de voorbereidingen zijn voor Urban al lang bezig. "You're taught as an actor that if you take away the eyes you have to think about what you're left with - there's the voice; there's body language. How a character does what he does speaks volumes. So those are the tools I will have to employ."

De film komt ergens in 2012 uit in de bioscopen.
