Cars 2 gaat wederom over Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) en Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) die hun vriendschap verdiepen over de grens als ze meedoen in de allereerste World Grand Prix die moet vaststellen wat de snelste auto ter wereld is.
