Rise of the Planet of the Apes doet het zowel bij de critici als bij de bioscopen goed. Op dit moment scoort de film maar liefst een percentage van 81% op RottenTomatoes en een 8,0 op IMDb. Daarnaast staat de huidige opbrengst van de film, met een budget van 93 miljoen dollar, op 78 miljoen dollar.
Daarom lijkt het niet gek dat er al mogelijk een vervolg op komst is. Regisseur Rupert Wyatt vertelde tijdens een interview over hoe hij een vervolg graag ziet. De film zou een soort Full Metal Jacket met apen moeten worden. Zo zou de film volgens hem kunnen laten zien hoe apensoldaten steden overnemen en met mensen vechten.
