Nog voordat X-Men: First Class uitkwam werd er al gesproken over een eventueel vervolg. De cast zit contractueel gezien vast aan een sequel en regisseur Matthew Vaughn en producent Bryan Singer hebben al enkele ideeën voor het verhaal. Er werd echter nog niets officieel bekend gemaakt.

Nu krijgen we te horen dat 20th Century Fox een schrijver heeft ingehuurd voor een sequel. Simon Kinberg, producent van First Class en schrijver van X-Men: The Last Stand, mag de klus gaan klaren.

Vaughn sprak onlangs zijn verlangens m.b.t. de sequel uit tegenover Hitfix:

I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he’s pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren’t even mentioned.

Een ander idee komt van James McAvoy tijdens een interview met Total Film:

In First Class [Xavier] uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head – maybe he can’t keep the voices out or something. So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he becomes… Patrick Stewart!
