De film Melancholia is de grote kanshebber bij de European Film Awards, die op 3 december worden uitgereikt in Berlijn. De film van Lars von Trier maakt kans op 8 beeldjes, waaronder die voor beste film, regisseur en actrice (Kirsten Dunst).

Melancholia neemt het in de categorie beste film op tegen het Britse The King's Speech, het Franse The Artist, het Belgische Le Gamin au Velo, het Finse Le Havre en het Deense In A Better World.
