George Lucas, de vader van Star Wars, heeft in een artikel in Bloomberg Businessweek gezegd dat Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher en Harrison Ford zo goed als rond waren om terug te keren voor Star Wars: Episode VII. Dit was echter nog voor het moment dat Walt Disney LucasFilm overnam van de filmmaker.
"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrisonor we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation," aldus Lucas. "So I called them to say, 'Look, this is what's going on.'" En "Maybe I'm not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them." Hier voegde hij nog aan toe "I won't say whether the negotiations were successful or not."
De kans lijkt dus zeker aanwezig dat we de originele Luke Skywalker, Han Solo en Princess Leia Organa terug gaan zien in de nieuwe Star Wars film(s), mogelijk al in J.J. Abrams' Episode VII of anders in een van de stand-alone films.
