De producenten van de Harry Potter films zagen op het laatste moment de 3D versie van Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in de soep lopen, aangezien de conversie de releasedatum in gevaar zou brengen. Dit neemt niet weg dat de conversie wel wordt afgerond en dat er ook een 3D Blu-Ray wordt uitgebracht van zowel The Deathly Hallows Part 1 als Part 2. De laatste Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 draait vanaf 14 juli wel in de Nederlandse 3D bioscoop.

Maar dit is niet alles. "We're doing 3D for the DVD of '7, Part 1,' and there's been no discussion of anything else yet." zei producent David Heyman tegenover MTV News. "But I suspect the studio is going to be reluctant to let it die, and if there's an opportunity to maybe enrich ... " Door dit te verbinden aan zijn eerdere antwoord ("I'm sure it's just a matter of time.") uit 2010 op een dezelfde vraag of de gehele serie in 3D te zien zal zijn, kunnen we e.e.a. dus hoogstwaarschijnlijk tegemoet zien komen.

Over de 3D Blu-Ray van Part 1 zegt de andere producent David Barron: "We're very pleased with the way 'Part 1' is going -- the 3D for the Blu-ray. It's really exciting, really involved." en "I was surprised at how wonderful it is. It is different in some ways [than the theatrical release], but it's enriching." Maar er wordt ook gewerkt aan een 3D bioscoopversie: Additionally, they're continuing to work on theatrical 3D effects for "Part 1," a process that has not yet been finished. "We haven't completed the first part in 3D for film release, for theatrical." Heyman voegt toe: "The quality is quite different. It's much easier, in a way, to do 3D for a smaller screen than it is for a bigger screen."
