Dinsdag schreven we dat Matthew Vaughn gestopt was met werken aan de film X-Men: Days of the Future Past, om de regie van Star Wars: Episode VII op zich te nemen. Nu blijkt dat dit niet waar is. Stripboekschrijver Mark Millar weet toevallig waarom Vaughn gestopt is met het project.
Volgens jaar zal de productie van de verfilming van een van zijn strips, Secret Service, beginnen. Blijkbaar hebben Vaughn en Millar jarenlang over het project gesproken. In eerste instantie zou hij gewoon eerst de X-Men: Days of the Future Past-film regisseren, maar toen bleek dat er soortgelijke projecten in de maak te zijn. Daarom is er haast achter gezet.
next year well start production on Secret Service which I did with Dave Gibbons, and Matthew [Vaughn] and I have been talking about that for years. We thought Matthew was going to do X-Men first, but we found out there were actually a few imitators of Secret Service in the works. People think youre lying when you say youre not trying to get your comics made into movies so quickly, but the two reasons it happens like that is first because its the best ad for the comic youll ever have. And for me, selling the book is the most important thing. The second reason is because people are always trying to rip you off. Somebody will start to work on a spec screenplay about your idea. There are three other projects I know of now about a James Bond kind of guy taking a street kid and turning him into a spy. Three screenplays were already going through Hollywood about this! So Matthew and I said, Fuck this. Were not letting anyone steal our ideas.
