Tijdens een interview voor zijn nieuwe film Captain Philips laat de Oscar-winnende acteur Tom Hanks weten dat hij graag de rol speelt van een superheld of een villain. De acteur die bekend staat om zijn bekroonde rollen in Philadelphia (1993) en Forrest Gump (1994), laat weten dat hij geen genoegen neemt met een bijrol.

Het liefst zou Hanks de rol spelen van een superheld als The Flash of desnoods de tegenstander van Batman: "No, [it's not a choice], they don't ask me and I keep trying...Come on, I can do it. Let me play a bad guy, let me play the bad guy against Batman. I'll do anything, call me. They've never asked. What do I have to do? God, I want to throw a shield at somebody. I want that. And I don't want to play the guy in the suit who tells the superheroes what's going on, I don't want to be that guy. 'Well, you know Batman...Captain America, Iron Man, here's what we've discovered', I don't want to be that guy. I want to get in there, I want to play The Flash or something like that. They'll never give me a chance."

Ondanks dat de 57-jarige acteur vooral bekend staat om de rustigere rollen liet hij onlangs in Cloud Atlas zien dat hij ook een wat geweldadigere zou kunnen spelen. Uiteraard was hij ook te zien in de strip-verfilming Road to Perdition (2002).
