Na veel geruzie over geld tussen Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings) en filmmaatschappij New Line is de lucht nu dan eindelijk opgeklaard. Het leek er geruime tijd op dat Jackson dooe de langslepende financiële kwestie niks met de verfilming van de LotR-prequel The Hobbit te maken zou hebben, maar nadat er onlangs al wat schot in de zaak leek te komen, is er nu dan eindelijk duidelijkheid: Jackson zal zowel The Hobbit als de geplande sequel produceren, twee films die respectievelijk in 2010 en 2011 uit moeten komen. Opnames voor de films gaan in 2009 van start.
