Tijdens een interview met Ridley Scott werden een aantal details van de komende Monopoly film onthuld. Hij vertelde dat de film meer referenties naar het spel zal hebben dan alleen de titel. Het is een Hasbro film, en daarom zou er veel van het spel in verwerkt moeten worden. Zo had men bij Hasbro volgens Scott het plan gevat om het schudden en gooien van de dobbelstenen in de hele film voor te laten komen. Scott vond dit echter geen goed idee: “I wanted to just make a movie about the idea of greed. I told them you know your game can turn your sweetest, dearest aunt into a demon –a nightmare of greed. So that’s what we’re going to do.”

Eerder nog werden er enkele plotdetails onthuld van de film. Wat daarvan blijft staan is nog maar de vraag, gezien het verhaal van Scott. He’s in this very vibrant place, Monopoly City, and he’s just come out of a Chance Shop. As it goes on, he takes on the evil Parker Brothers in the game of Monolopy. He has to defeat them. It tries to incorporate all the iconic imageries - a sports car pulls up, there’s someone on a horse, someone pushing a wheelbarrow - and rich Uncle Pennybags, you’re going to see him as the maître d’ at the restaurant and he’s the buggy driver and the local eccentric and the doorman at the opera. There’s all these sight gags.
