Danny Elfman componeerde muziek voor vele grote films maar is voornamelijk bekend door zijn werk voor The Simpsons en zijn intensieve samenwerking met regisseur Tim Burton.
Voor hem maakte Elfman soundtracks bij Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetle Juice, Batman, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks!, Planet of the Apes, Big Fish en Sleepy Hollow.

Ook voor Burtons Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is Elfman opnieuw gevraagd om te componeren en hij zal zelfs verder gaan dan alleen de compositie: Elfman gaat alle Oompa-Loompa liederen hoogstpersoonlijk inzingen:

Elfman zong overigens eerder de liederen van Jack Skellington in het door Burton geproduceerde The Nightmare Before Christmans.
