De Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) heeft de longlist bekendgemaakt van de 15 films die op 27 februari 2011 kans maken op de Oscar voor Beste Visuele Effecten.

Begin januari zal het Uitvoerend Comité van de Visual Effects Branch die lijst terugbrengen tot een shortlist van 7 films. Op 25 januari zullen de comitéleden de finale nominaties bekendmaken van de 3 films die op 27 februari 2011 kans maken op de eigenlijke Oscar. Vorig jaar ging Avatar met het beeldje aan de haal.
