Sinds het einde van zijn gouverneurschap probeert Arnold Schwarzenegger zijn acteercarrière nieuw leven in te blazen. Zo zal hij binnenkort zijn comeback maken in Last Stand (als lokale sheriff), heeft hij opnieuw een rolletje in The Expendables II, en zal hij een gijzelaar spelen in Captive.
Nu Schwarzenegger de 65 nadert, lijkt het echter niet zo evident om terug te keren naar zijn geliefde Terminator-franchise. Maar Justin Lin, die Terminator 5 naar alle waarschijnlijkheid zal regisseren, heeft wel een ideetje om de oudere Arnie terug in de film te loodsen. In een interview met de Los Angeles Times zei hij daarover het volgende:
"There is a way to do that. I dont want to give anything away but I have a very clear idea thematically and arc-wise where we can go. Again, its been just great to throw that around with James and Arnold. Is time our enemy? Well, there is a ticking clock but anytime anything goes into development with the state of filmmaking and the way films get made youre always fighting for more time. The biggest enemy is rushing things. I dont think it should be rushed. Creatively, it will come when it comes. Passion is always the currency and its the thing that will create momentum. If thats not there you shouldnt do it. Obviously, theres a lot of money involved and with that money the clock is going to keep ticking."De bioscooprelease van
