Hollywood is weer een ster armer. Na Joaquin Phoenix en Angelina Jolie eind vorig jaar heeft nu ook Viggo Mortensen aangekondigd dat hij stopt met acteren.

Mortensen in een interview met News24: "In the past week I've been from Los Angeles to Japan to Korea to Poland to the UK. It's ridiculous and it's not a healthy way to be. But, as it happens, I'm taking measures to change that. No more movies. (...) I haven't said yes to one in over a year. I've been in all these well-received movies and it seems like I should be doing some more, but there are other things I want to do. It's not the right time." Mortensen gaf ook toe dat hij al verschillende rollen in bigbudgetfilms heeft geweigerd, en benadrukte dat hij nooit in een film zou meespelen voor het geld: "They were often complete crap, all about product placement and marketing. I don't need the money."

Viggo Mortensen is vooral bekend van zijn rol als Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings-trilogie. Twee jaar geleden sleepte hij nog een Oscar-nominatie in de wacht voor zijn vertolking in Eastern Promises. Andere bekende films met Mortensen zijn A History of Violence, A Perfect Murder, Hidalgo, G.I. Jane en Daylight.
