Jared Leto heeft gemengde gevoelens als het gaat om zijn breakout rol als Jordan Catalano in de tienerdrama 'My So-Called Life'. De show was voor maar één seizoen te zien op ABC van 1994 - 1995, maar decennia later praten fans nog steeds over de crush van Angela Chase (Claire Danes).
In een interview met Rolling Stone laat Leto weten dat de rol mogelijk meer voor zijn fans betekende, dan dat het betekende voor hemzelf. "I feel like it was such a short period of my life. Let's face it, I barely spoke! I have a lot of gratitude for starting there, but they made such a big deal of the character in the show. I think for some people, especially girls at that time, it mirrored something in their lives. I don't know. It did make an impact for people, but it's always been so imbalanced with what the experience was for me in my own life."
Als het gaat om zijn eigen ervaringen op de middelbare school, verteld Leto het volgende: "I was too busy taking drugs. I did them, lots of them. A lot of them were really fun," geeft de acteur en zanger toe. "There are just those few that tend to kick you in the a**. I guess at some point, too, there's a decision: Is this going to be my life? I made a choice to pursue other dreams. I guess that's just the kind of f**ked thing about a lot of drugs: The opportunity cost is too high. Some drugs are incredible, but the risk versus reward is out of line. I just saw too many examples of what not to do."
Op 44-jarige leeftijd heeft Leto al een Oscar in zijn bezit en is hij binnenkort te zien in 'Suicide Squad'. Toch blijft hij terughoudend als het gaat om zijn privéleven. "You know what I have learned about women? I know absolutely nothing about women." Ook geeft hij toe dat hij niet zeker weet of hij ooit in het huwelijksbootje zal stappen. "It's just how things are. I don't think there's a definitive decision that I've made." Als hem wordt gevraagd of hij ooit heeft gedacht aan het hebben van kinderen grapt hij dat hij misschien al een kind heeft rondlopen. "You never know."
